独立分句（也称主句）：在语法中，能够单独成句、表达完整意思的从句/分句，通常至少包含一个主语和谓语（动词）。它可以独立存在，也可以与从属分句（dependent/subordinate clause）组合成复合句。

independent 源自拉丁语词根，含“不依赖的、独立的”之意；clause 来自拉丁语 clausula（意为“句子的一段/分句”，与“关闭/收束”相关）。合起来，independent clause 就是“不依赖其他分句也能自足表达的分句”。
