内毒素：主要指革兰阴性菌细胞壁外膜中的脂多糖（LPS）成分。细菌死亡或裂解时释放出来，可引发人体强烈的炎症反应，严重时导致发热、低血压、脓毒性休克等。（注：在更广义用法中，“endotoxin”也可泛指微生物产生的某些毒性成分，但最常见、最标准的就是LPS内毒素。）
